Ohio Issue 2 Fails – The numbers behind the results.
The unions, the mainstream media and the progressive liberals are already heralding a ‘tide turning’ vote in Ohio against Governor Kaisch and the Republican House and Senate. Claiming victory where they found defeat in Wisconsin on a similar but not quite same measure. While saying this may be a preview of the 2012 Ohio election for President.

But, what else would you expect? There are some numbers behind the results that may be overlooked. The public employees in Ohio that would be affected by Senate Bill 5 was over 300,000. Right from the beginning the proponents found themselves down by nearly 10% of the total ballots to be cast on Tuesday. The fact that only approximately 42% of eligible voters turned out, a reasonably high number for a non-presidential election, still means the majority of Buckeyes either didn’t remember the off year election or thought the passage of the issue was safe. To add to the confusion, the wording on the ballot was opposite of what you might expect. In order to keep Senate Bill 5, you were to vote yes, in favor of passing the State Issue 2. Typically you’d expect to vote no to repeal a bill, not yes.
Senate Bill 5, gone but hopefully not forgotten. The state employees, our public servants, need to pay their fair share of pain along with the private sector in Ohio. Unfortunately the bill did have some flaws that even a conservative could see. The lumping together of Teachers, Firefighters and Police simply made it to easy for opponents to say this was an attack on public safety and children. There were even some mentions about the politicians exempting themselves from the bill, making it look hypocritical.
Despite it all, these numbers tell me that this vote was closer than the liberals and their media lapdogs will want you to think. It is not a forgone conclusion that the people of Ohio have pushed back against uncaring Republicans in Columbus. Rather, they managed to mobilize enough people about their own self-interest and wrongly scare others into delaying a much needed recovery in the state.
But I’m Just Sayin’….
